Sen. Meekhof offers comment on Civil Service Commission decision

LANSING—State Sen. Arlan B. Meekhof, R-West Olive, issued the following statement today, following the state Civil Service Commission decision to extend health care benefits to domestic partners of state employees:

“I am disappointed that the unelected, unaccountable bureaucrats on the Civil Service Commission have made a decision to spend millions of extra taxpayer dollars at a time when we are facing a significant budget deficit. State spending needs to be restricted to only the things that are absolutely necessary, and funding health benefits for the unmarried partners of state employees certainly is not necessary.”
